Description
I love the profile of the isle of Rum from the Lochaber coastline of Scotland. It resembles one of the swooshing lines in the notebook of late architect Zaha Hadid, ready to inspire the next incredible building. I keep searching for an interesting bit of coastline that could frame or lead toward Rum. The tide has a controlling role in this of course. It is hard to find an original composition these days, unless you are prepared to go that bit further.
This location is a gorgeous secluded beach only accessible at a low spring tide. Even then, you need to wade a little and you don't get much time before the tide cuts you off. This is the mouth of a sea loch, so the tides have sculpted a sweeping shelf to the edge of this beach, which I couldn't resist using for this image. I opted for a long exposure with a polariser set to increase the reflections off the surface to get that dreamy milky effect. There was nice light on this July day, with the high sun dipping in and out of the clouds. I find the final result to be quite otherworldly.
